Meaner Than Your Demons

themaninthelightning:

You lied to me. The first thought that sprang to Eobard’s mind, that nearly slipped past his lips. Fury simmered underneath every word. But beneath that rage–deep, deep beneath–laid panic and regret, two ugly twins that he was desperate to ignore. Panic helped nobody, and regret has never gained him anything good. With difficulty, he swallowed his anger down, stepping further into the room. He was no longer even sure who he was angry at, only that it was intimately tied to his former protégé.

Besides, Cisco could argue, with some degree of justification, that such deceit was exactly what Eobard deserved. Reap as he sowed, and all that. “I only want…” Too many possible endings to that sentence. “…to clear the air between us. Remove all lies, all doubts.” It took him a few moments longer to drop the glowing eyes than it had to drop the growl, but by the time he’d finished talking his eyes were back to that more natural blue. A visible show of powering down.

“There is no possibility of clearing the air. The lies you told are unforgivable, Thawne.” Cisco spit out, crossing to the man. He stood a few feet from the other, crossing his arms to protect himself. “Why are you really here?”
