“The security,” she told him frankly. But disappointed in his response, she sighed. “Why are you here then? If you’re resigned to admitting defeat. That’s pointless. Useless. You wouldn’t be here if you weren’t intelligent. Science isn’t victory after victory. It’s 99 failures, and then one victory.” She scolded him. 

“Did Barry or Caitlin update you on what happened? My powers overtook my whole being. I went off the grid, hardly remember anything that happened. I killed people without meaning to, hurt even more. I hurt people that I care about, and I’m not okay with that. I’m sorry. Sorry that I’m not more optimistic right now. Sorry I use humor as a defense mechanism. Sorry that I’m not much of a scientist right now.” He sighed heavily, turning away from the woman to check the status of the pot on the stove. “I haven’t been to work in weeks. I’m afraid that what happened before is going to happen again, because I can feel it peeling away at my being. I can’t be around my friends and risk it happening again.”
