“Ohmygod,” Ray muttered, running to the woman. “What happened? Wait. Don’t answer that. Save your strength.” Thoughts were racing Ray’s mind. What if the assailant were still around? What if they were waiting to jump him too? He pushed the thoughts from his mind and slid his arms under the woman’s knees and behind her back, picking her up. “I’ve got you. I’ll keep you safe.”
Wait someone actually heard her? She struggled to get up but given the dizziness she was back on the floor “h.. Help..” her head felt like it was going to explode
Ray had just gotten out of work, and he heard something. Wait, not something. Someone. “Did someone say they were dying? Because that’s ya know, concerning.” Ray laughed awkwardly, hoping he wasn’t talking to himself. “Hello?”
Ray heard the woman very clearly despite her whisper and walked them swiftly down the alley and back to his car. He laid her in the back seat and jumped into the driver’s seat, not hesitating to start the car and drive. Ray didn’t know where he was driving.
Should I take her to the hospital or my place? Is that weird to take a random woman back to my place? I doesn’t even know her name.
Ray’s thoughts raced as he glanced at her in the rearview mirror. “How you doing back there? Should we go to the hospital or would you rather go to my place where I can bandage you up?” Ray bit at the inside of his lip while he waited for a reply, not knowing how the woman would answer.
