Allie sat with her back against the concrete slab of a building, the little bit of warmth coming from the building helping her retain body heat. She pulled the thin blanket tighter around her shoulders and pushed closer to the building in an attempt at finding comfort. She was on high-alert and cautious, especially with sleeping in the alley for the night.

She was turned away from the shelter, as every bed was claimed for the night, and they were already at capacity. If only she’d have left sooner, if only she’d tried harder, if only, if only. She could curse at herself for hours, but that would only make her feel worse. Suddenly, the scuffle of footsteps down the alley pulled her out of her own mind and back to the reality of the situation.

“Hello? Who’s there?” Allie’s voice was strong, but she felt anything but.

It had been a long time since he’d run into anyone from the Brotherhood.

In their eyes, Lucan was a traitor. It didn’t matter that he’d never amounted to anything more than an asset to them, or that they’d killed Kayla in an attempt to retain that asset. No, what mattered was that he had double-crossed them, he’d switched sides, and for that they wanted him dead.

Which was why what he thought was a meeting point for mutants in need of shelter ended up being a trap. Two out of the three who’d come for him were currently unconscious, but the third – the firethrower – was still alive and well and chasing him down the alley. He narrowly dodged a fireball, feeling the heat slide along the side of his face, when he saw that another one was headed straight for someone curled up in a blanket. Lucan reached out to get them to their feet, yelling, “Go!”

Allie was yanked from her guilt-ridden self-loathing as she saw bright bursts of light that she could only describe as fireballs barreling down the alley that she was nearly settled into. That couldn’t be possible though, right? She saw a fireball barreling towards her as a stranger pulled her to her feet. Allie began running down the dark alleyway, only looking back for a split second as the fireball engulfed her little space she’d just been sitting in. “What the hell?!?” She gasped in a panic as she nearly tripped over her own two feet, tangled in her blanket.

As they rounded the corner, Allie turned to the stranger as they continued to run. “What the hell was that? Who the hell are you?”
