Jesse lowered her voice to a whisper like she was telling her dad a secret, “Mama’s saving the world.” Then she snuggled into him, saying, “Maybe if we go home now, Mama will be there. We should go check.” She burrowed her head in her blanket, muffling her voice, “I’m tired. My head hurts and my arm hurts and I want my bed with Jane. Please, Daddy?”

Tom’s eyes widened at his daughter’s words, and he let out a small gasp of surprise. “She is? Wow!!” A smile pulled at his lips as she snuggled closer to him, but part of him knew that the tears and fear she felt not long ago would more than likely make another appearance before the night was over. His heart broke for his little girl. He was supposed to protect her, but here they were in the hospital. “You think? We’ll head home to snuggled into bed in a bit, but first -” he said, the curtain gliding in & out of the way as the doctor entered. “We have to hear what this nice doctor has to say about your arm, okay?”
