A grimace pulled at Tom’s mouth. Yikes. “Oh, okay. I have some food in the car, I can grab it in a bit,” He said, scooting closer to the woman. “Not my patient. I guess I was the patient?” The inflection in his voice made the statement sound more like a question, and he really did question the statement. “I was kidnapped and put into a magically induced coma by a witch to hide me from some other witches called Travelers because I am a dopplegänger. A shadow-self. A near perfect copy of another from thousands of years ago,” Tom explained, staring off behind the woman as he spoke. “Geez, you probably think I’m crazy,” he muttered, readjusting so he was sitting normally on the dusty warehouse floor.

A tired smile pulled at Cara’s lips, “I know, I know. Quite the glamorous life I lead. And really, it’s all right, you don’t have to do that. I’ll push on, I always do.” She didn’t ask any questions when Tom talked about him being the patient, waiting to see if he would expound upon that. When he did, then she asked, “Why does it matter that you’re a doppelgänger, why did the witches want you – for some sort of spell? And did putting you in the coma work, are you safe now? Or are the witches still after you?” When he commented that she probably thought he was crazy for revealing all of this, a beat passed before she quietly said, “…The girl you saved tonight, Lilah… She spent weeks being possessed by a demon. When I tried to do the exorcism, to pull the demon out of her, it used my own weapon against me. So no, I don’t think you’re crazy. I think you got pulled into the world that I’ve been fighting back against for over a decade now.”

Tom cocked his head, a brow raising. “I’ll at least leave you with something to eat,” he explained. He wasn’t the type to leave someone high and dry – even if they just held him at gunpoint. “They needed me for some spell. My blood, I think. I mean, I don’t really know if I’m 100% safe, but there’s no reason to not live life normally, right?” He explained, gesturing with his hands as he spoke. Tom’s gut wrenched when he heard of the girl’s possession & exorcism. He’d read about it in books and seen it in movies and TV, but never thought it was actually real. “Wow, that’s…wow,” he muttered, unable to come up with better words to describe his feelings. “I mean, I’m one of those supernatural creatures, so I wouldn’t be surprised if someone mistakes me for one of my doppelgangers and comes after me at some point. From what I remember they’re not human, so…” Tom’s voice trailed, his eyes finding the woman’s face once more.
