“Nobody died.  And exactly.  You’re here.” He motioned at the pipeline unhappily, but sighed.  He wasn’t helping anything right now.  “You’re definitely cared for, and I’ll consider it more okay once you’re out and healthy again.  I just…”  Barry smiled a bit, knowing another apology was just as worthless as his fussing.  “In any case, I’ll be here.  If not in here with you I’ll likely spend my late nights here in Star labs rather than home.  And I’ll leave the mic’s on so I’ll hear you if you ever need anything ever, okay?”

“Okay. Thanks, Bar. I really just want to get some sleep.” Cisco said with a sigh. “If Vi ends up coming by, just send her down. Don’t tell her the code though. I’d rather she stay safe with me in thecell and her on the outside.”

Violet laughed softly. “It was hardly fate, Cisco. I tracked you down myself.”

“SHhhh. Let the moment linger, Vi.” Cisco said, eyes closed as if he were meditating. “I know you did, but just- just let it be.” He craked open an eye to look at her face and flash her a smile.

“As are we,” Caitlin knew what it took to get him to stay here. An airtight security system and a few touch and go moments. She’d gotten used to not sleeping by this point. Her hands tightened around his pudgy middle, knowing he was trying to assert his male bravado. She didn’t care how manly he thought he was, it was obvious that he wasn’t okay. “I’m going to call Jay.”

Cisco quickly stood as straight as he could, blinking the haziness from his eyes. “No, I’m fine. I don’t need this Jay guy to carry me 10 feet. We’re almost there.” He sighed and shook his foot out, still playing it off that his foot was regaining feeling. “It’s nearly there, I swear. It’s at that painful tingle point where it’s almost has full feeling. I can walk.” He smiled.

Caitlin smirked knowingly, finally this was her Cisco. The same insanely intelligent and overly dorky young scientist who saved her behind more times than not. “Fine, I will leave your obsession with those wraps of death alone.” Tapping on the key pad, she watched the metallic doors open for them. She looked up at him with such clarity, “because my gut says you won’t hurt me.” She paused for a moment before stepping into the lift, “and you’re my friend, Cisco. I know you better than I know most people.”

“That’s really reassuring.” Cisco said with a smile. His head was swimming from the migraine he’d given himself trying to remember. “I’m glad I stayed at STAR Labs.” He blinked as his visioned darkened for a split second, his steps wavering. “I’m good, I’m good. My foot is still waking up.” He laughed lightly, knowing Caitlin would be on him in seconds.

Violet reached out, pressing a hand to the glass. “Promise me you won’t ever say that you have disappointed me again, alright? No matter what you do. Whether you’re evil or good or nice or mean. You’re still more family than I have ever been able to call mine.”

“I can’t promise that, but I can promise I’ll always be there for you. Through thick and thin.” Cisco sniffled, bringing his head up to meet Violet’s eyes. He felt frozen in place. Completely numb. Otherwise, he’d probably get up and meet her hand on the glass with his own. “Violet.” He paused. “Thank you.”

“They’re also filled with saturated fats and empty calories,” she chimed as they walked through the hollowed halls of the pipeline. Caitlin hoped that Cisco would stop questioning his actions for the night so she could compile the damage. She wanted to lessen the emotional blow to zero–Cisco was her friend. One of the only people she wanted to see come out of this whole ordeal without the burdens of it all. “We’re going to the lab so I can clean your wound and then we’re going to go back to my apartment. I want to make sure you’re okay but I am tired of sleeping on that stiff cot.”

“Shhh.” Cisco laughed, bringing a finger to his lips. “I already know. I just choose to ignore it.” He said, the smile falling to a smirk. “Sounds fair. But hey, How can you trust me after I don’t remember what I did? You know what I can do, and I can’t even remember if I’m in control. How do you trust me so easily?”

“You might have hit your head and uh–you’re experiencing temporary memory loss..” Caitlin lied as smoothly as she could. Would she really jeopardize the first real connections back to the normal Cisco to fill him in on his wicked alter ego that terrorized the city. “Good because you need to lay off those breakfast burritos buddy,” she tapped his stomach before holding tighter to him. Gingerly, she crossed the threshold with him nestled against her.

Cisco could tell she wasn’t telling the whole truth, but he didn’t want to create any more tension than there already was. “Hey now,” He quipped. “Those are a beautiful and delicious way to start each morning. I can’t promise anything.” A smile tugged at the corners of his face, and as she pulled him closer, the smile briefly graced his face. It dropped as they started walking and he really had to focus on putting one foot in front of the other as his foot regained feeling. “So, where exactly are we headed?”

“I shoved you out when you needed someone.  It was my fault Cisco.”   Barry was miserable, hating that Cisco was in this situation at all.  And he blamed himself for not seeing it as well as not being there like he should have been.  “What matters is making sure you’re good and cared for and figure out what’s happened.Making sure you’re okay is what matters.”

“Well, I’m here aren’t I? I’m alive. Nobody died.” Cisco said, laying a hand on Barry’s shoulders. “Wait, nobody, died, right?” The joking tone completely gone from his voice. “I know for sure I’m cared for. I have you, Cait, Vi, and others who care for my welbeing. It’s all okay, Bar.”
