Len let out a ragged sigh of relief. He was glad he didn’t have to waste any more time trying to convince Cisco to help him. “Thank you,” he said, his voice sincere for once. Gone was the usual playful sarcasm. “If they took her the way they took me, I already have a good idea on how they nabbed her.”

He scooped up the bag containing the guns, and grit his teeth as the pain he’d ignored in his ribs flared back to life. “Here,” he ground out, as he placed the bag on Cisco’s desk. “Lisa’s gun is in there, along with what was used on me. It’s some sort of taser gun. Powerful. I was hoping you could tell who made it.”

The thumb drive he had pocketed on the way over to the lab. He wasn’t quite ready to let Cisco know about that. Just in case the boy was playing him, and Len had to flee. “This started in Chicago. That’s where Lisa will be. I’m sure of it. I just don’t know who the hell is targeting us.”

As soon as Len put the bag on the desk, Cisco opened it and took the gold gun out. He turned it over in his hands, examining it and imagining how it could have fallen onto the pavement. “She could have been hit from the back or from the side. If she had the gun out and at the ready,” He said, holding the gun up like he’d seen Lisa. “Then if she was hit from the front our perps would be encased in gold. A taser, as you probably know, sends volts of electricity through a person, contracting their muscles. Wherever she was taken from, there’s probably some gold somewhere. That will be the way she was facing.” He said, setting the gold gun down and grabbing the taser thing.

“I realize that’s all but useless, seeing that she’s already been taken, but I thought I would verbalize my thoughts so that you knew what I was thinking,” He stated matter-of-factly as he turned the taser gun in his hands. “I’ve never seen a taser gun like this before.” He said in awe. Cisco turned and walked to his workstation, setting the gun down and opening his drawer and sorting through his tools. “At first glance, it looks like there are two ways to use this gun. Either from a distance or right up close. I would think this thing could leave some pretty nasty electrical burns on a person. Wait a second…” He said, looking closer at the gun. “There’s something in here I’ve never seen before. I’ll have to run a few tests to see what this chemical is.”

Lisa was still worried, especially given how desperate he sounded. “Ok, Cisco, I won’t say anything. But I will shadow you home just to make myself feel better.” She replied. “Try to be more careful if you insist on going into the field. Not that I don’t think you can handle yourself but there are metahumans that can kick your ass and many are willing to kill if you look at them the wrong way.”

Cisco sighed, ignoring the comment about going into the field. “I am literally a block from my apartment. Let me walk you back to your bike or whatever. Or at least let me make you breakfast.” He smiled, tilting his head at the woman.

“You okay?” She asked seeing him wince. “We all start off weak. None of us woke up one day as strong as we are.” She smiled. “Some of us are even still learning. Just like you.” She walked over to another table and grabbed up the first aid kit. “I can’t find any puncture wounds, bullet wounds or anything. You got really lucky, Cisco.”

“I know. The guy just had a crowbar. I somehow knocked it from his hands after he got a few hits in.” He sighed, wincing again at the movement of his ribcage. “He just came out of nowhere.” As she turned to grab the first aid kit, he debated telling his friend about his powers. Would she treat him differently? Would she be afraid of what he could do? How many people should he tell? He smiled at the woman as she turned back around, self conscious about whether his thought process could be seen on his face.

Office Call: Cisco/Helena

Helena shook her head. “I don’t know what I am,” she mumbled, her body stiff and rigid as he hugged her but slowly relaxing into the embrace. “I’m sorry. I’ve never broken down like this. I don’t know what is happening.”

“You are you. Plain and simple.” He smiled. “It’s okay. You don’t need to explain yourself. I’m here for you, no matter. C’mon. Let’s head to bed, yeah?” Cisco said, releasing the hug and taking her by the hand.

“And the university is claiming it belongs to them, I’m not the enemy peppy, I’m just the messenger. I’ll let them know you refuse to relinquish. Let the lawyers do their things.”

“Well, I’m not going to sit here and argue with you.” Cisco said, reaching for his wallet. He opened it up and pulled out a business card, and handing it to the woman he smiled. “Have your supervisor call me. Tell them it’s regarding the purchase of the university’s share of STAR Labs. Oh, and that it’s urgent.” He nodded, turning back to his computer.

Len supposed he deserved some derision from the kid. He hadn’t exactly played nice in the past. The problem was he didn’t have time to make nice. Instinct told him to pull his gun, threaten to ice Cisco unless he cooperated. But he forced himself to remain calm. Give him another chance.

“D’you think I’d play about this?” Len asked, unable to mask the frustration in his voice. “I ran into some trouble in Chicago. Looks like it followed me home. Lisa was grabbed last night, sometime after ten. When I got up at seven this morning, she was gone. I found her gold gun in the outside, damaged.”

His expression hardened. “Lisa likes you. I don’t have a problem with you. But I don’t have time. Lisa doesn’t have time. These guys hurt me, they’re probably…” No, he wouldn’t voice his greatest fear. Not yet. The thought of Lisa getting hurt because of him was almost too much to bear. Len swallowed with effort, and asked in a voice that shook only slightly, “Are you gonna help or not?”

Cisco stood before the man with his arms crossed, trying to put something else between himself and the other man as well as to show his dislike for the man. “Well, given that last time, you used your sister to lure me back to some mansion so I would build you all new guns. Then, because I didn’t cooperate, you hurt my brother. Not Cool, dude. Not. Cool.”

Cisco leaned against his desk and processed the information Len had just given him about whatever happened to Lisa. “Where’s the gun? I might be able to use the way it was damaged to determine if she was knocked out when they took her. Or rather, how she was knocked out.” Cisco said in a sad tone. “I’ll help, but only for Lisa.”

Office Call: Cisco/Helena

Helena shrugged and shook her head, tucking her hair behind her ear. It was like she had been put on a factory reset and was just a blank slate again. She certainly was nowhere near the person she was as The Huntress… She felt naked and vulnerable and completely out of control. She wet her lips nervously and, to her distaste, her eyes began trying to blink away the tears that seemed to come out of nowhere. She opened her mouth to try to explain herself but quickly closed it again. Her shoulders were hunched in on herself and she hung her head. “I don’t know how to do this,” she whispered. “I don’t know how to be the person I was. I don’t know how to be the person that deserves your kindness.”

Cisco tilted his head as the woman struggled to get the word out. Oh shit, I broke Helena. He thought as soon as he saw the tears. The woman was so hard and she seemed so strong, so he was confused as to what was going on. He ran over and wrapped her in his arms and rubbed small circles on her back. “It’s okay. Shhhh. You’re okay. You just be you, babe. You don’t need to be anyone other than you.”
