Red Means Stop || Open

Mark had been wandering through the crowd, casually lifting things off of people, jewelry, watches, wallets… Honestly he was only doing it to keep his mind off of the potential explosive around his neck. That was when he casually strolled a little too close to Cisco, and was about to back away – completely unnoticed – before he saw the other man’s collar turn from yellow to red. Mardon grabbed his own and lifted the mirror of Lisa’s he had taken earlier and hadn’t actually put down yet noting his own was not red. “Thank fuck,” he breathed, and attempted not to look too relieved, or amused at the situation as he looked around at Cisco, “tough luck, little one.”

Cisco turned his head slowly to face the man that had been walking past. “Oh, hey Mardon. Yeah I know, sucky, right? Looks like STAR Labs is going to have to find a new mechanical engineer.” He threw his now empty water bottle into a gap between people, frustrated that he chose to drink after the argument with his sister. “You should get outta here. Really. I’ll be fine, I just have to find some tools to get this off before it blows.”

Violet looked down at her feet. “Why didn’t anyone tell me,” she whispered, not trusting her voice to speak without wavering.

“We were trying to protect you from all the bad that’s out there in Central City. We did it ‘cause we love and care about you a whole lot.” Cisco brought his hand up to his collar again, trying to pull it off.

“Is this the… thing that Caitlin was bothered about?” Roy wondered. If Cisco also had powers, it would make sense given his proximity to S.T.A.R. Labs. “Are you freezing stuff, running a marathon in under a second, spontaneously combusting or something new entirely?”

“Uhm, probably. I’m in the ‘something completely new’ category. I can stop people in their tracks, shatter concrete and glass without touching it, and probably more.” Cisco shrugged. “I’m still on the learning curve for it, however.”

Sara shuddered at the contact, her body tensing up, readied to fight off the next wave or terror. The smell of boozes laid waste to her psyche, her hands coiled around his arm, bringing him down to the floor. Her foot pressed to the base of his neck. She needed to snap out of it but her body and mind were on autopilot.

Cisco’s brain was already scrambled, and being thrown to the ground helped to snap him out of his own stupor. “Sara! It’s Cisco. You’re okay! You don’t have a red collar. Sara!” He pleaded between gasping breaths.

Violet started nodding but stopped. “I don’t know, Cisco. I feel like that’s the game, to be honest. The first reaction will to try cracking these things off. But shouldn’t we play to the unexpected? It’s all a game and an experiment. Barry wants to go out and find him and fight him. That’s probably what he wants as well. All of the heroes leave to take him down leaving the civilians sitting ducks. It’s only logical.” She chewed on her lip and looked down at her feet. “I knew from the beginning he would have to leave to save a kitten from a tree at moments notice. I knew it, Cisco. And I was fine with it. I’m still fine with it. But no one told me there was villains. Nobody told me that those stories about insane clowns and…” She trailed off. “When he showed up to my house in the middle of the night… And… Explained… He only told me that he used his powers to help people. Save them from burning buildings, sometimes even stopping a break in or a bank robbery or something…” She laughed and shook her head. “I don’t even know why I’m talking to you. You’re smashed.”

“Well, firstly, you can’t just crack it off. That would probably set off some sort of trigger. That’s never good. Second, that’s the life of a hero. Saving people is saving them from the villians. They’re all around us. Captain Cold, Weather Wizard, Golden Glider, those are just a few. They lurk in the shadows and wait for the right time to crawl out and make their appearance.” Cisco stared off at the sky, utterly zoned out as he went all philosophical on his sister. “Smashed or not, I’m here to listen.”

She rolled her eyes, “You’re cute too Cisco,” she replied almost like she was teasing him, “but those boots are cuter.” She tugged at the collar on her neck, and almost as if on cue a voice rang out over the crowd. It explained the situation, and Kendall looked down at the green blinking just in the edge of her vision. Panic began to rise in her diaphragm as her breathing grew short and scared. She looked over at Cisco, who’s collar glowed yellow. Her eyes widened and for the first time in a long time she was concerned for someone else’s well being, “Cisco…”

“What? What is it?” He watched as the green light blinked on her collar and began looking for the light on his own. He quickly saw the glaring yellow light on his own collar and looked up to the woman. “ ‘s all gonna be fine. I’m a mechanical engineer, ‘member?” His words slurring, he looked around the room to see people frantic and running about the room.
