“Mama gets hurt a lot,” she softly said. But then her Daddy was swinging her up onto the chair, and she squealed, yelling, “I want to do it! Can I do it? How do I do it?”

A sad look flashed across Tom’s face. “You’re right, she does. But Daddy trusts that Mama to be safe, even if she’s hurt.” His eyes widened as she squealed, and a laugh escaped his lips. “First, the needle is sharp, and it will hurt if you accidentally poke yourself. So be careful, okay honey?” He took her small hands in his, and guided them as they began to fix the doll.

She nodded, “I’ll find you. Promise!” She idly played with his fingers, “Mama says that you fixed her. That you made her all better. And happy, too!”

“Good,” Tom answered, wiggling his fingers within hers. “Mama’s right. I fix her up when she gets hurt, and she keeps me safe, just like she keeps you safe.” As they approached his desk, he lifted the little girl into the chair, his arm wrapping around her back to ensure she wouldn’t fall off the chair. “First, we thread the needle…”

Skipping alongside him as they went to fix Jane, the little girl asked, “If I get hurt, will you fix me, too?”

Tom smiled as he felt her hand holding his first two fingers as she skipped alongside him. “Mommy and I will always try our best to protect you from anyone anything that can hurt you. But if you ever get hurt, I want you to find me first, okay?” The little girl nodded, looking up at her Dad. “I’ll always fix you up, no matter what.”

A four year-old blonde haired, blue-eyed girl runs at Tom, holding her doll in one hand and a button in the other. “Jane lost her eye – can you fix her? Cuz you fix people!”

As the little girl ran towards Tom, he knelt down.“Of course, baby girl,” he cooed. “Let’s take a look at Jane, hmm?” He held out his hands as the little girl placed the beloved doll in his care. The well-loved doll looked tiny in his large hands, and Tom cradled it close. “Jane will be all fixed up in no time,” he told his daughter as he pulled her close and placed a kiss on her head. “Do you want to help daddy fix Jane?“ Without missing a beat, she nodded furiously, a grin plastered on her face. “Let’s go, I’ll show you.”

❛❛ Don’t do this. Whatever it is you’re doing, there’s a better way. ❜❜ – Evie to Stefan

“Stay out of this, Evelyn!” Stefan’s voice was practically a growl as he curled himself around his bloodbag. His knuckles went white as he squeezed the bag as he drank, draining the bag quickly. “You shouldn’t have come here. You’re putting yourself in danger, even just being here. I’m not in control.” He reached for another bag, tearing it open with his teeth before continuing to feed.
