“Oh I will,” he drawled, unlocking the door and holding it open for his friend. “After you, m’dear,” He said, following her inside and to the kitchen. Pulling a box of pizza rolls from the freezer, he dumped them haphazardly onto a plate. “See, these are better in the oven, but in a pinch? Microwave’ll do,” he grinned, sliding the plate into the microwave. “Are you hungry, El? I bought some fruit for you!”
Ella rolled her eyes, but said ‘thank you’ as she walked into the house. Ella was slightly amused by his drunken movements though made sure all the pizza rolls made it on the plate. “Microwave seems safer considering your condition.” She said dryly though slightly amused until her spoke again. Confusion filled her voice, “You bought me some fruit? What do you mean you bought me some fruit?” There was slight suspicion in her tone as she looked at the drunken boy before her and folded her arms in front of her chest.
“Whadda you mean, Whadda I mean? I bought you fruit! We’re friends, I bought you food when I was at the store! That food is fruit!” Matt exclaimed, using his arms to gesture. As the microwave beeped, his eyes went wide. “Pizza Roooollls!” His voice was sing-songy, and he had a goofy grin on his face. “Ya know, there was something else I needed to do….what was it? OH! Water.”
6. If you were to pick one song — and only one song — to describe your character, what would it be and why?
“Running Home to You” by Benj Pasek & Justin Paul. This might be cheating, but Barry sings this to Iris during the musical episode and it just suits him so fully, It can be applied to everyone special in his life. He always will come running home to those he loves, no matter what happens.
7. How does your character perceive themselves? Positive? Negative? Neutral?
Positive all the way. Barry is filled to the brim with optimism, even if it’s blind optimism.
8. Are they a quick thinker or do they need time to sort through their thoughts?
Oof. Barry thinks with his heart 95% of the time, doing whatever he can to save those he loves over himself. The other 5% of the time, he thinks with his entire being, thinking through all the possibilities to choose the best outcome for everyone.
9. Does your character dream or are their nights filled with an empty blackness? Describe a dream they’ve had or a night they couldn’t sleep and what they did to preoccupy their time.
Barry lucid dreams more than anything else. Like, he doesn’t make the effort to, but his brain is still very active when he’s sleeping. When he visited Earth-38 and met Superman while he and Oliver had switched lives in the Elseworlds crossover, he had a very intense lucid dream where he both had the power of flight, speed, and the skill of using a bow and arrow. Using these three powers & skills, he had to save the planet on his own.

Allie, on the other hand, lost her parents when she was young. while i didn’t lose both parents, i did deal with the loss of a parent very suddenly when i was 13. while i have worked through my pain and grief, i’ve always wondered what would have happened had i not had people to help lift me out of darkness. [sorry if that’s over sharing…]
